A DAY'S OUTING FOR ALL CLASSIC CARS AND
MOTOR BIKES
FROM VETERAN TO 1990 INCLUDING A DISPLAY IN ROSS
NEXT PICNIC AT ROSS: SUNDAY MAY 16 2010
The 2010 “Picnic at Ross“ has passed the planning stages and after the fantastic success of the inaugural event in 2009 we are all anticipating a great turnout this year on Sunday the 16 May 2010. 220 classic vehicles attended in 2009 with very little promotion and from feedback we have had throughout the year we are looking forward to at least that number again, maybe even more.
From the survey we conducted last year we have been able to cater for most of the upgrades you suggested we look at. The most important of these is parking/display area. It was all a bit squashy last year as we had no idea of the numbers as it is a turn up if you wish event. We have had very generous support from the Northern Midlands Council in this regard who are approving some street parking, of course reverse parking will apply. In addition we will again use the village green in the centre of town and have been fortunate to have access to additional space offered by the T Spot Café in Ross. Needless to say that with so many vehicles anticipated it will be important to follow the directions of parking marshals. In this regard clubs who wish to display together must arrive together by finding a gathering point well out of town prior to convoying in. Due to the number of vehicles arriving, marshals will not be able to reserve spaces for club late comers. Clubs are invited to bring their flags and other regalia to fly over their display in order to give the whole scene a gala atmosphere.
The parade through Ross has been discontinued this year as inadvertently it was a major cause of delays in 2009 due to the unexpected volume of traffic attending. This year arrival will be possible after 10.00 am and vehicles will now enter Ross from both the northern and southern entrance roads. Tasmania Police will be asked to monitor movements on the Midland/Heritage Highway and for smooth operations please ensure you obey the directions given by police or traffic marshals. The day will conclude at 3.00pm to allow for early departure home. Again the simplicity of “Picnic at Ross” is maintained with no entry form, no entry fee, just turn up, being the theme
Local businesses, especially food outlets are being notified and in addition we will be arranging for a BBQ/sausage sizzle to be on site. Arrangements are also being made for coffee/tea facilities. A number of prize draws will be made between 10.00 am and 2 .00pm based vehicle will number allocation and a memento of the day will be available.
A wider range of special and classic vehicles are anticipated this year as notifications are going to more clubs than in 2009, so we expect a wonderful spectacle in the historic village on the day. “Picnic at Ross” has been positioned on the calendar as an autumn event that avoids clashes with many other motoring and other events and you should also note the no matter the weather it is on anyway and has been termed an all weather event.
See you at Ross
